Durational Devices I-V is a five-week performance installation that examines the underside of the human condition. The artist’s body becomes a vehicle to reflect different and varying states of being—young, old, limited or ill; lonely or depressed; contained, controlled or marginalized—and how we confront resistance with and through the body. Each week different drawing tools are used in conjunction with one of five unique Devices, which are mobile aluminum platforms. Each Device constrains movement and vision in a characteristic way; each are propelled by the artist’s toes. The performance space is demarcated into five distinct adjacent areas, one for each performance. All of the performances are done in relative silence.
Durational Devices I-V takes place on five consecutive Fridays: June 29–July 27, 5:00-7:00pm. A panel discussion with the artist and writers Nancy Princenthal and Annie Godfrey Larmon and MASS MoCA curator, Denise Markonish, will conclude the series on Saturday, July 28, 1:00-3:00pm. Seating is limited; reservations are recommended for the panel discussion and can be made on Eventbrite: bit.ly/2HvrY0t
All events take place in the Marble Block building, 129 Main Street, Biddeford, Maine.

Durational Devices is supported by a 2018 Kindling Fund Grant. The Kindling Fund is a program for artist-organized projects in the state of Maine, administered by SPACE Gallery and part of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Regional Regranting Network.
The Marble Block (Biddeford) is the site for all five Durational Devices performances as well as for the panel discussion. All six events are free and open to the public. A huge debt of gratitude to Engine in Biddeford for generously donating their support for this project.
The Marble Block will foster the creative exchange of ideas between all members of our community.
